Creating an original concept for marketing material for the Boston Jazz Festival, capturing the essence of both the Boston area and jazz culture. For use in various media including a poster, subway ad, tri-fold, and web banners.
For this project, I chose to be inspired by the work of Romare Bearden, whose energetic collages of soul and jazz culture seemed to be the perfect medium to portray. I created my own, more modern, collage elements, consisting of pieces of featured performers, various textures, and of course, iconic Boston area elements such as the Citgo sign and Tom Brady’s jersey. The busy image style is accented with clean, cutting edge typography, reminiscent of cut pieces of paper. Rather than literally show music elements, I wanted to emulate the feeling of jazz culture through lively visuals.
